Sketch

If you specifically have previous sketch writing experience, we may offer you the ability to choose the course you wish to take depending on our evaluation of your skills. Please send us a brief description of your previous experience, what you want to work on, and a short packet containing any relevant media such as scripts, recordings, videos etc and we will get back to you as soon as possible with our recommendations and next step.

For all other experience (including other writing experience like novels and stage plays), we require you to start from the beginning with our 101 course.

Our 101 course focuses solely on radio sketches and by the end of the course you will have your own 10-15 minute sketch podcast episode. We focus on radio sketches in 101 for several reasons:

  • Radio is the most accessible route into the UK comedy industry.
  • Writing for radio increases your stage and screen writing abilities.
  • You can repurpose radio sketches in your later stage and screen work.

Sketch writing is very mechanical and we build from the ground up, starting with basic jokewriting techniques, presentational formats, software, editing techniques and sketch structure. Even if you have previous experience in say jokewriting or game-of-the-scene improv, it will serve you well in the later courses to learn how to apply all these things into the cohesive whole that sketch writing requires and we strongly believe that radio is the best place to start.
