Customer Cancellations

If you can no longer attend a course or workshop, please notify us as soon as possible by emailing contact@improvchippy.com.

  • Cancellations do not automatically entitle you to a refund — refund eligibility and total amount refunded is determined according to the relevant section below (for 101 Terms, Non-Intensive Terms, Intensive Terms, Drop-In Workshops).
  • Once the course or intensive has begun, a cancellation counts as a withdrawal, and your refund entitlement is based on the number of lessons or days commenced, as defined in the formulas below.
  • You may transfer your booking to another participant only with prior written consent from The Improv Chippy Ltd.
  • Failure to attend any lesson or intensive day without prior notice will not be considered a cancellation and will not qualify for a refund.

All cancellations must be received in writing via email and are considered effective from the date and time the email is received in our inbox.

Any exceptions (e.g. medical or family emergencies) will be at the sole discretion of The Improv Chippy Ltd.

Cancellations by The Improv Chippy

In exceptional circumstances, we may need to cancel an entire term, intensive or workshop due to unforeseen events (for example, instructor illness, venue availability, or other events beyond our control). Should this occur, we will do our best to reschedule. In the event a course, intensive, or workshop is rescheduled in its entirety:

  • All participants will be notified by email as soon as possible.
  • Your booking will automatically be transferred to the new date(s).
  • If you cannot attend the rescheduled date(s) or we cannot offer a rescheduled date(s), you are entitled to a full refund (including any booking or administration fees).
  • Alternatively, you may choose to transfer your booking to another term, workshop, or intensive of equal value.

In rare cases, we may need to cancel part of a term or intensive due to unforeseen circumstances (for example, instructor illness, venue availability, or events beyond our control). In such an event, we will seek to reschedule to another date. In such an event, we will do our best to reschedule to another date.

  • If a course, intensive, or workshop is rescheduled, all participants will be notified by email as soon as possible.
  • Your booking will automatically be transferred to the new date(s).
  • If you cannot attend the rescheduled date(s) or we cannot offer a rescheduled date(s), you are entitled to a refund for that individual part of the course only calculated using the formulas below.
  • Alternatively, you can opt to receive a discount coupon of equal value for use on another term, workshop, or intensive.

For Terms the formula used is as follows:

Refund = Term Price x (1 - (Lessons Missed ÷ Total Lessons))

For Intensives the formula used is as follows:

Refund = Term Price x (1 - (Days Missed ÷ Total Lessons))

Note: If only part of a day is missed, we shall still treat that as a full day missed and you will receive a refund for that full day.

101 Terms (Non-Intensive)

For any non-intensive 101 terms the following applies:

You are eligible for a full refund (minus booking fees) up until one week before the term is due to start.

After that date, you can get a full refund (minus booking fees) and minus an administration fee of £10, provided you email us to apply for it before the commencement of lesson three.

Assuming you have signed up for a taster session before the intro course, this essentially gives you three lessons (taster session, lesson one, lesson two) to ascertain if improv is for you with only a small financial outlay:

  • Taster Session: Range from free to £5
  • Booking fees: Depends on the external event provider but most likely under £5
  • Administration Fee: £10 Total: £20 or less

If you request a refund after lesson three has commenced, your total refund amount will be subject to the following formula:

Refund = Term Price (minus booking fees) x (1 - (Lessons Commenced ÷ Total Lessons)) - £10 administration fee.

A lesson is counted as commenced as soon as it's scheduled start time has passed. Commencement is separate from individual attendance and these formulas apply regardless of your attendance of the course.

All refund claims are subject to the date and time they are lodged via email and must be lodged before the scheduled start of the final lesson of the course. You are ineligible to claim a refund once the final lesson of the term has commenced. Any exceptions to this rule (e.g family emergency) will be at the sole discretion of The Improv Chippy Ltd.

For example, say you are booked on an 8 week term, attend lessons one and two, miss lessons three and four, and then apply for a refund the day after lesson four. Lesson three and four are counted as commenced and you will not be eligible for additional refunds for the lessons you did not attend. The formula that applies to you will be:

Term Price (minus booking fees) x (1 - (4 / 8)) - £10 administration fee.

On applying for your refund, you will not be eligible to participate in any more lessons in that term. You will also not be eligible for the 50% discount we give to anyone who wishes to retake the course and you will have to pay full price if you wish to take the course again.

For example, if there are no booking fees and you have paid £200 for an 8 week course, here is what you would get back depending on when you decided to drop out:

More than 1 Week before the course starts: £200 = £200 refund.

Less than 1 week before the course starts: £200 - £10 = £190 refund.

After Week 1: £200 - £10 = £190 refund.

After Week 2: £200 - £10 = £190 refund.

After Week 3: £200 x (1 - (3 / 8)) - £10 = £115 refund.

After Week 4: £200 x (1 - (4 / 8)) - £10 = £90 refund.

After Week 5: £200 x (1 - (5 / 8)) - £10 = £65 refund.

After Week 6: £200 x (1 - (6 / 8)) - £10 = £40 refund.

After Week 7: £200 x (1 - (7 / 8)) - £10 = £15 refund.

After Week 8: Term is complete, no refunds given.

Any exceptions will be at the sole discretion of The Improv Chippy Ltd.

Other Terms (Non-Intensive)

For all non-intensive terms (other than 101 terms) the following applies:

You are eligible for a full refund (minus booking fees) up until one week before the term is due to start.

Any later than that, and your total refund will be subject to the following formula:

For example, if you have paid £200 for an 8 week term, here is what you would get back depending on when you decided to drop out:

After Week 1: £200 x (1 - (3 / 8)) - £10 = £165 refund.

After Week 2: £200 x (1 - (3 / 8)) - £10 = £140 refund.

Intensive Terms

For all intensive terms (including intensive 101 terms), the following applies:

You are eligible for a full refund (minus booking fees) up until one week before the intensive is due to start.

Between one week up until the start of the intensive you will be eligible for a full refund (minus booking fees) minus a £30 cancellation fee.

Any later than that, and your total refund will be subject to the following formula:

Refund = Intensive Price (minus booking fees) x (1 - (Days Commenced ÷ Total Days)) - £10 administration fee.

A day is counted as commenced as soon as the scheduled start time for the first lesson of that day has passed. Commencement is separate from individual attendance and these formulas apply regardless of your attendance of the course.

All refund claims are subject to the date and time they are lodged via email and must be lodged before the scheduled start of the final day of the intensive. You are ineligible to claim a refund once the final day has commenced. Any exceptions to this rule (e.g family emergency) will be at the sole discretion of The Improv Chippy Ltd.

For example, say you are booked on a three day intensive, you attend day one, leave halfway through day two and lodge your refund one hour before day three is scheduled to commence. You will not be eligible for additional refunds for the second half of day two and the formula that applies to you will be:

Refund = Intensive Price (minus booking fees) x (1 - (2 ÷ 3)) - £10 administration fee.

On applying for your refund, you will not be eligible to participate in any more of that intensive. You will also not be eligible for the 50% discount we give to anyone who wishes to retake and you will have to pay full price if you wish to take the course again.

For example, using a £200 intensive set over three days, you would be eligible for the following refunds depending on when you lodge your claim:

More than two weeks before intensive is due to start: Full refund.

Less than two weeks before intensive is due to start: £200 - £30 cancellation fee = £170 refund.

After Day 1: £200 x (1 - (1 / 3)) - £10 = £123.33 refund.

After Day 2: £200 x (1 - (2 / 3)) - £10 = £56.67 refund.

After Day 3: Intensive completed. No refunds given.

Any exceptions will be at the sole discretion of The Improv Chippy Ltd.
