The Improv Chippy is North East Lincolnshire's home of improv and sketch comedy. Founded in 2025 by local comedian Rob Carr, the organisation was born after Carr travelled to Melbourne—Australia's comedy capital—to study intensively with some of the country's leading improvisers. Drawing on the training lineage of his instructors, The Improv Chippy offers a curriculum that blends Chicago, New York and Los Angeles improv styles, popularised by renowned schools such as iO (Chicago), UCB (New York) and WGIS (Los Angeles). The company pairs these influences with the distinctive humour of Northern England, resulting in a style unique to the region and reflected in its official slogan: “Chicago Style Improv. Northern Soul.”

The Improv Chippy aims to provide the area's most comprehensive comedic training, deliver exciting and innovative weekly shows, and foster the development of a vibrant local comedy community. The organisation believes that the people of NEL have humour in their bones but have for too long suffered from a lack of creative outlets and opportunities — a gap the organisation is committed to addressing.
